After I was diagnosed as severely gluten intolerant a few years back - and thus, unable to eat all those tasty treats available at patisseries that I had previously enjoyed - I must admit that I became quite the baking fiend... and my favourite treat to bake was the humble cupcake! After years of being a side-lined dessert, cupcakes are enjoying a huge return to popularity; and I, for one, am grateful, because this is the kind of baking that allows the use of enormously creative licence when it comes to decoration.
The point of my telling you this, though, is to tell you about one of my absolute favourite cafes, located conveniently in my home town of Brisbane... Carousels Cupcakes!
Fashioned after a 50s diner, this fabulous cafe is well stocked with cupcake 'pin-ups' (The Marilyn, The Gidget and, my favourite, the gluten free Mama Cass to name a few!) as well as vintage and retro-inspired books and gifts to take home with you. The atmosphere is perfect and the cupcakes divine - all you needs is a 50s dress, a slash of red lippy and a gaggle of girlfriends and you've got yourself a perfect Saturday brunch!
