Well, I gave you the day off yesterday with a lovely swoon over 'crazy quilt' items, but we're back to the birthday fun with this fabulous cake tin from Wilton. Usually only available in the USA, one of my darling - and similarly-cupcake-obsessed - friends gave me this wonder for my birthday. What looks like a sweet cupcake is actually a GIANT cupcake shaped cake - the perfect way to spread the cupcake love on special occasions. Also available in a mid-sized cake tin (about halfway between the size of a real cupcake and this large size), this cupcake pan is a bargain $AU39 from Peter's of Kensington.
I grew up on repeats of I Love Lucy, starring the fabulously outrageous redhead, Lucille Ball. She always had amazing comedic timing and she can still draw a laugh 20 years after her death. A talent, a wonder, a total knock-out... happy birthday, Lucille!
When it comes to Clara, it's all about the eyes. A star of the silver screen in the silent film era, she was known for her tragic childhood and adolescence, later becoming tabloid fodder when she found fame. Today, we remember her for her talent, her expressive face and those puppy dog eyes. Happy birthday, Clara!
Best known for amazingly harmonized hits, such as 'The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boys', The Andrews Sisters still hold the record for being the best-selling female vocal group to this day! Having sold over 75 million records, had 113 songs on the billboard charts and been featured in 17 films, they were a trio to be reckoned with.
She was beautiful, certainly; but boy was she talented, and she wasn't afraid to take the un-pretty roles of her era, earning acclaim and Academy Award nods for no less than five roles. Today, in celebration of what would have been Susan Hayward's 90th year, I have two lovely videos for you: the first featuring Susan singing up a (patriotic) storm; and the latter, a slide show of photos showcasing her modelling and acting career (including gorgeous outfits from the 1930s, 40s and 50s). Happy birthday, Susan!
[It appears that there have been some technical errors when viewing this blog entry for IE and Firefox browsers the past few days... but hopefully everyone will now be able to marvel at the wonder that was Susan Hayward! xx]
Dean Martin - part of the original Rat Pack - had a wonderful voice and I always feel that his music calls one to stand up and dance (or Sway) about the living room. So, on this day - what would be his 91st year - I suggest we do just that! Happy birthday, Dean!
I couldn't mark today without celebrating the birthday of Miss Daisy herself, Jessica Tandy. This is a wonderful montage of her very long career in film and I'm certain you'll enjoy watching how her style changed from decade to decade. A true talent and a vintage beauty. Happy birthday, Jessica!
